As of May 6th, 2010:
Due to forester activity in and around the Green Mountain area,
ALL of the Kalama Rock Hound area is closed.
They will be notifying us when the area is reopened.
Please respect this notice, to help keep this area open to us for rock hounding.

Longview Fibre is now Longview Timber
We will be able to get back in to Kalama Green Mountain area to rockhound, with some restrictions. We need to be on our best behavior: fill in our holes, and not dig where we should not.
The area south of the beaver ponds is closed and the J. E. Johnson road area (south of the ponds) is closed FOREVER.
The area North of the ponds is open.
Remember that if you go on LVT property to rockhound, let them know you are doing so. If we want to keep this area open we must follow the rules set forth by the land owners: Longview Timber.
Please Help us Keep Access to the Kalama Sites Open
There have been people walking in to this area and undermining trees and digging in streams.
This may result in us being kicked out of this area for good.
Please help us to stay in this area by obeying these simple rules.
Thank you
Longview Timber Rules While On Their Property
- All members will enter through the gate at the same time.
Their names and vehicle license numbers need to be recorded.
They will then be signed out as they leave the property. - Vehicles must stay on rocked roads only.
- No Digging in any creeks or channels, whether they contain water or are dry.
No dirt is to be placed so that it may get in to the creeks. - Any holes that a created as a result of digging is to be back filled, so there are no "fox holes" left behind.
- No Fires at any time or for any reason.
- No Smoking during travel or while working.
- No over night camping.
- Anyone found digging in a Creek or other damage will be escorted off the property.
Please be sure to follow these simple rules while on Longview Timber property.
Doing so will help ensure rockhounds continued access to this area.
Kalama Site Access Information
Longview Timber (LVT) has sent the WSMC a set of rules to be followed while on their property. This applies to the Kalama area as well as the rest of Longview Timberland.
Longview Fibre is not giving out any more keys to clubs; it is getting to be a lot of work for them. If it gets to be too much they will lock us OUT! Please try to get with a club that has a key and go with them. Clubs with a key need to share there good fortune and let others know when they are going in to the area. We have done this over the years, with the clubs around us.
All people that want to rockhound on LVT land need to contact LVT and ask them if it is OK to go onto their land. This applies to ALL, even if you have all the proper paperwork and have gotten a key for your club. It also applies if you walk on to there property. You need to contact LVT and ask if it is OK.For safety reasons, Longview Timber requests all rock hounding recreational users of the Kalama Green Mountain area to get permission before going onto their property.
In the summertime they generally close their land to recreational use due to FIRE hazard. Also they may be working the land and at that time there would be no access to the general public. All who take a group or go as a individual on to their land must have permission from Longview Timber.
We will try our best to post when the area is closed; it will be posted on this website.
PLEASE NOTE: For those clubs that have a key, remember that it is the club is responsible for that key! They are the ones who pay the insurance. If the person that holds the key moves on, they MUST leave it with the club. The key is not for personal use! It is for the club's use and should not be lent out to others. If something happens, your club is still responsible.
